Thank you all so much for your wonderful comments.
Thespian, i used one of my fav windlight settings, Torleys Brouhette Charm (hmm something like that lol) which lends itself nicely to this painting feel. I then used various PS brushes to enhance areas like the clouds and put the birds in. I often overlay with textures to get a painting feel but this time I felt it didn't need it. Bit of burning and dodging on shadows and "Bob's your uncle" as we say ;-)
