Socks's works

Damage enabled sim. Sharks that can cause damage and kill. Signs all over the place warning you about the sharks. You have a tag on in the safety of the underwater base at they swarm you. And even then, I don't trust anything in a sim out to kill me. But I want to dive that wreck. A lot to take in while you wait for the airlock to flood. Reg in muzzle, punch the button, let the ocean door open, take a deep breath and swim out.

Done for the Quintessence contest. (http://www.koinup.com/contest/quintessence/)

I'm starting a movement within koinup with these entries. "AANUPS" It stands for "Ansel Adams Never Used PhotoShop". I'm tired of the people who make Second Life "Realer than Real" to the point of hyperreality. Most of us don't view second life through 50 layers of 'shop filters. SL is angular, pixelated, and most of all it's not tweaked to perfection as you move through it. So my pics are untouched screen shots. And I CHALLENGE everyone to dare to do the same.

I perfectly understand what you said about the:
SL is angular, pixelated, and most of all it's not tweaked to perfection as you move through it

I take advantage from your claims, to tell that we have enabled the Send Postcards because, exactly because we think that Koinup is a place for artists, photographers, and also for people which love to share places, avatars, etc....

feel you free Socks to increase your movement and invite people from here and outside koinup to share unprocessed / raw photos......

then, I'll support your initiative of collect the best "unedited shots"
in some way........

I'd appreciate that, actually. I've only stopped short of going back to the last 6-7 contests and showing what people do to images to win them. I mean it's almost to the point that people aren't posting what's out in SL as much as it's art based on what they saw in SL. It's good art, but it's not what they took a photo of in the first place.

It just bothers me that people can't take beautiful pictures, they have to overly enhance them. But, I shouldn't be surprised. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hibyAJOSW8U) Take a look at this video, it's an eye opener and something that will show you what I mean. Accepting beauty for what it is also means you need to accept that "beautiful" is sometimes "ugly". It's not airbrushed, photoshopped, altered and enhanced to be something it never was.

So when I see that same thing happen in SL, a place where people create themselves in the first place, it just bothers me. It's like when a pianist says they're going to perform a Bach piece not as it was written, but "as Bach would have intended it to sound!"

So unless I'm making an artistic statement (cartooning an image, for example, to intentionally make a point) I'm posting raw screen shots for contests. SL isn't photoshopped, why should I have to make it so to win a virtual photography contest? I mean isn't that the point of photography? to NOT 'shop an image to within an inch of it's life to alter what should have been well taken in the first place?
