Technique: You know, I wasn't happy with this one after some post-processing work -- it was too bright. The usual post-processing included touching up some of the highlight and contrast (managed to get more shadow, and more red from the sunlight on the back leg), using smudge to clean up some unfortunately-shadowed areas, and so on.

But ... not happy. Set it aside for a bit, and then took another crack at it. I tried a Midnight Sepia, and that wasn't doing it for me (washed out too much of the color). So I just messed with curves... and much better! Curves can be a really powerful tool for getting the kind of light and dark levels that you want. It's more complex, but also more powerful, than Levels.
