Not a lot of thought went into this one...I was looking around, saw this real nice tree, the sand looked good, and I used windlight to try and get a sense of the hot , African heat..and threw in my Avi as a point of interest, along with the tree...

but basically, I just loved the colors :-D

I love the shot bar one little element Pan - I don't like the lens flare on it, I think it distracts from what is a beautiful shot and to some extent it masks the true beauty - for me take it out and the shot would be stunning ;)

Actually, BB, its funny you should mention the lens flare, cause originally I uploaded this without it, then I continued to play with the image on gimp, and did the flare, and thought it looked ok, so I took down the old one, and uploaded this flared version...so if you'd be interested in seeing the original, let me know, and I'll upload it...its identical , bar the flare...

and as always, thanks for your input :-D

So...better with, or without?

after some consideration I am going to agree with BBeau, it is much better without the lens flare which really is too strong, as well as somewhat misplaced as it seems to originate from a point just below the sun and is at a perfectly horizontal angle. Also the original picture without the flare is not quite as reddish as this one and I think that is more natural, I can say that the non-flare version is very nearly perfect and certainly would be even more so if it had just a little bit more contrast...but overall I love the picture and the composition is simply brilliant:)
