Best viewed large...and after a few drinks...but aren't they all ??...LOL

Recently, Pier took this pic:
...and asked how it could be improved.

This is my take on it, although not in words ( and not that I'm saying it's an imrovement, just that this is how I'd do it )

And here are Trixis takes:

Mine is purely Windlight also, though I did play about a lot with contrasts, brightness, and color using Photofiltre...I also used the lasso rope around little sections to either soften or sharpen them.

What I really concentrated on, was trying to show the crafted rock formations, which is why I chose an evening setting, which cast richer shadows, thus highlighting them.

I tried some different crops, so the sculptured face would be less centered, but they didn't work out so well, due to there being lots of distracting items,to the left and right of what is shown here.

The only thing I really don't like, is the textured floor on the bottom right, which really dosn't look right, and the only reason I didn't crop it out,was that I wanted more of the water in the foreground showing.

This sim is constantly changing, and the structures are slightly different in mine then in Piers and Trixis...even while trying to take this pic, there was a builder there, moving boulders around, so I had to wait for him to finish...LOL.

So, I'd really like to see others takes as well, I think there may be a lot to be learned by these sorts of excercises, and I've already mentioned to Pier that we should make this a regular thing, as a way of studying different peoples tecniques and skills.

(Oh, and the frame is optional, some people may like it, others not...but presentation is also important, though not really the subject at hand here. )

And here's my re-work of this:

I love the fact that you can see straight through the arch here...and yes..I looked at a side angle which could also look good if they do more work but I think the centre is good. The colours look great also. This is the thing about landscape is something we can do, all give our own take on it...or maybe we could use one of us as a model and see what we each come up with. FUN STUFF!!!

BBeau [deleted] | 13 year(s) ago you see why mine was so centered, I wanted an angle from down lower, but that damn platform was right in the way...and I dont know how to shop it, LOL.

hey Pan, awesome take on the subject......I love the postcards feeling you gave it with the framing.....

While Trixi was great in the painting feel, you has been great in giving a fantasy feel to the scene....

I found really also interesting your description ........I have been impressed by the fact the sim is changing.......

This is very interesting because our photos tell the story of the sims exactly as real life photos....tell story of real places...

Thanks Pier, and you're right, about the evolution of the sims...This one is still obviously under construction, and I bet in a months time it will look completely different.

I think this is a wonderful picture and it is very atmospheric and flawlessly done, with one glaring exception (in my humble opinion)...the ground at the bottom right appears very geometrical and unnatural and is a complete misfit to the ground on the left which is just awesome...I find this part quite distracting but I also understand finding the right framing was a challenge for you and I can say that you did the best you could:) what I might do if I had taken the picture is to either use some detailed blurring and smudging to blend the geometric shape with the rest of the image, or perhaps even copy and paste from the left side and use some rotation, perhaps transformation and shearing as well, to make it look unique...and then again blurring or smudging the edges to blend it in. I hope these are some useful tips for your next work, and personally I cannot wait to see what that next work will be:)
