This one I played more with layers and "liquify" not a skill I've used before. I think this is a over done and takes away from the shot...and should be a bit less - in your face - with the smoke/fire treament. However...wanted to see other's take on this one. Pante...thanks for suggesting this SIM in you Jade Forest work. Lovely place... Need more Time...got any of that???

Thanks you guys! Do you agree that the fire is over done....or do you think it is okay the way it is. Also, for any of you "liquify" experts - any tips? Just discovered it and it is fun!

I love the liquify effect however I think it might have been more visually appealing with a softer effect on the molten lava...to me they stand out as triangular blocks of orange. In fact maybe you coud have applied the liquify to them a bit and made them more fluid looking. Does this make sense Monroe? xx

Trixi - yes that makes perfect sense. I will play with it more. Love that effect..just need to really play with it more to get the hang of it....Thanks for the comment! Appreciate it.

ok where I think this picture doesnt work is that the flames don't look like they belong on the picture - they look like a transparency laid over it. I think that you need to do a little more work and make the flames appear more like the are on the trees. What blending mode are you using for them? Perhaps play around with the blending modes and try to make the flames not appear so transparent.

Where you have used liquify on the water doesn't flow right for me - I think that to emphasis the mist you should use a different technique. Try making a selection on a separate layer of where you want the mist to be (make sure that you have a feather of about 15-20 px) have your default colours of black and white set then go to filter>render>clouds. Then double click on the layer in the layer palette and that brings up the layer style box. Here you will be on the blending options part. Leave all settings as they are but at the botton where it says Blend if Gray you will see a bar under it with a little black pointed arrow. Press alt and click on this arrow and you will see it split. Drag this arrow almost to the very end of the bar. Press ok to now leave this box. Making sure you have the same layer highlighted (you could name it mist) change it's blending mode to screen (this will take away the dark).

Now you want to press ctrl + T (sorry don't know what it is on a mac!) and you will then be in free transform. This puts a box around the whole area. Look up onto the tool bar and you will see a series of boxes with numbers. I usually adjust the width box to anywhere between 400 and 1000. Add a gaussian blur to it - how much depends on what look you are after. I would then play around with the positioning of it (as you have widened it beyond your image size). Once happy use the crop tool to take off the excess mist.

Hope this makes sense! It is a lot easier than it sounds!

Composition wise it'a a lovely angle and great crop.
